How our clients feel.

VAN DER WAT FAMILY, Parkview

We wanted to improve on our kitchen/ dining space design to make it more practical and get rid of an odd pantry. The existing kitchen stoep also needed to be redesigned - it was both ugly and badly built.

In addition, we did not have a study and needed this space to be designed.

The kitchen wasn't bad, but it also wasn't working as well as we knew it could.

The stoep was cracking and was both a structural disaster and an eyesore. Having to work in an office space next to the washing machine wasn't practical.

Now, the space is so much more practical with better flow and lighting.

The pantry and scullery work very well, and the study flowing out of the kitchen works excellently. In addition, the new steps leading up to the stoep make walking to and from our cars more practical, and it is far more pleasing on the eye.

In short, we gained from it all!

We appreciated Laura's calm, kind approach, expertise, & knowledge. We enjoyed the entire package.

We liked Laura's aesthetic and her portfolio. Her detailed approach and understanding of our aesthetic also factored into the decision. I would have loved to use her services as a project manager, too! Even clients who have the know-how simply do not have the industry knowledge and contacts she does as an architect.

CLIENT FEEDBACK - ANDREW & TAMSYN

At around 90 years old, our house needed someone with the experience and eye to preserve its best features and improve the layout for modern-day use.

Communication from Laura was outstanding, and she listened to our suggestions while also explaining certain design choices.

Once this project is complete, we're looking forward to enjoying our new kitchen/ dining area, decorating, and putting up all our pictures that haven't yet found a spot!

KOMALA PILLAY, Parkhurst

Laura was very accessible and a good communicator, she listened well to our needs and was able to develop practical solutions that were still aesthetically pleasing.

The new upstairs room fits seamlessly into the look and feel of the rest of the house, and doesn't look an after-thought add-on.

Also spot on were her suggestions regarding natural light. The glass bricks which were not our first choice, are fantastic for the lighting effect both during the day and at night. And the extra window that I thought wasn't necessary, is a really attractive light source for the stairwell.

Laura's solution to address drainage during thunderstorms was fantastic. She provided a solution utilising different levels that is practical, safe, ergonomic and attractive.

In the words of Christo & Adèlé Cronje, Heritage Hill Clients:

"We bought an existing house in a beautiful neighbourhood, but the layout was very impractical and not aesthetically pleasing.

An excessive amount of wasted space impacted the house’s natural flow as well as its practical, day-to-day usability.

We needed more ‘intentional’ areas such as an extra bedroom, laundry, and WFH office.

With so many underutilised open areas we were unsure how to divide the space in a way that contributed to the general flow of the house without seeming like an afterthought.

The experts always see things that you can't.

They have an eye for detail and take the whole picture into consideration. Laura has a great feeling for a building and how to optimise space usage, but also accommodate a budget.  We loved the simplicity of the design process and the client centred service.

Our immediate requirements, future needs, as well as budget constraints were considered, resulting in the design being phased.

The flow is so much better and very natural.

The spaces are intentional and meet all our needs without seeming like it was done after the fact.

With a few small changes the entire space is elevated."
